10 Years Later: What's changed and what's next?

I published my last novel 10 years ago. I hadn't realized so much time had passed until the other day. I'm currently on vacation until September and had an urge to look at some of my old writing after making a decision to get back into it.

I managed to remember my Goodreads and Amazon KDP logins and have spent the past few days reminiscing on the writer I used to be.

These days, all I write are emails and draft legal documents. 😕

I stopped writing in 2014 after I decided to go back to school. But between 2011 and 2014, I wrote several novels under different pen names--the unfinished Witchbound Series being my favourite. 💕

For me, Witchbound was something I felt the YA Paranormal fiction market needed. I'm seriously out of touch with what's out there now, but when I created the series, there were very few YA Paranormal fiction novels with diverse main characters. And finding an agent willing to back one was very difficult. I had several requests for my manuscript, but no takers. So, on a whim, I decided to self publish on Amazon.

Around the same time, I also gathered a group of fellow writers to create "Diverse Pages" a blog dedicated to reviewing paranormal fiction with main characters of colour. I miss that blog.

Looking back, I wish I'd been able to stick with it. All of it. The writing and the showcasing of other authors striving to make those changes in the industry. Back then, I didn't have the privilege of pursing writing as a career. As a single mom, I had to focus on providing for my family. Hence the decision to go back to school.

I've had a career in law now since 2016 and am currently in a privileged position to revisit my first love part-time--writing and reading. But I'll be honest. I don't know where to start.

So, I'm starting with this. A blog reminiscing on the stories I wrote and why I wrote them.

None of those stories are currently available for purchase but, who knows, maybe I'll be inspired to dust them off and put them back out there. And, just maybe, finally finish the last book in the series.

Perhaps I'll also occasionally write about other stories I've read and why I loved them.

I'm not making any promises. From what I can see, this world has boomed since I was last in it. It will be interesting to visit again.
